The Minister of Economy on ensuring competitiveness

The ceremony of the 45th anniversary of VARIS was attended by distinguished guests, including Matjaž Han, the Minister of Economy, Tourism, and Sports. In his address, Mr Han pointed out his awareness of the need to ensure a predictable business environment.

He was also informed that Varis Lendava (currently employing 240 people) is the largest employer in the municipality, and also provides work to the citizens of neighbouring Hungary and Croatia. Sabina Sobočan, Director, explained: “There is a staffing problem, and we would immediately employ a tile setter. We were resourceful this year and employed 40 tile setters, mainly from Hungary. It may be an appeal to the government to do all in its powers to make the business environment more favourable. Especially companies that do business with foreign undertakings should be more competitive. Because if we do not have a competitive business environment in our country, we cannot be successful abroad.”
